Kino Mediteran ended 2018 with a record number of 48.628 visitors! This is the total number of visitors collected from 26 cities, 702 screenings and 126 films. There was an average of 69 visitors per screening, which is an impressive number even for bigger cinemas and cities than ours.
And while we were carefully collecting our statistics, with the beginning of the new year, wonderful news came from Ministry of Culture. Thanks to the successful application of Kino Mediteran and the Centre for culture and lifelong learning - Zlatna vrata, we were given funds in the amount of HRK300 000 to equip Kino Bačvice.
Zlatna Vrata partnered up with the Mediterranean Film Festival Split for an investment support project for restoring and equipping the cinema after the summer season. Alen Munitić, Art director for Kino Mediteran said: "These great news came just as we were preparing for the next season. Owning our own technical equipment is one of the preconditions for obtaining a program, and it will also elevate the experience of watching films in Kino Bačvice. Thanks to this support we will be able to save some of the money we spent last year on rental equipment and I'm sure that, with these funds, we can improve lots of things for our audience."
In this first phase of investments for Kino Bačvice, funds for technical equipment were approved, but we will also work on infrastructural improvements. Tamara Visković, the Director of Zlatna Vrata said: "Participation of Croatian Ministry of Culture is extremely important for the Open Air Cinema Bačvice project, for its sustainability and quality of work. I believe that, with our well made plan, we will be able to count on this support in the upcoming years as well, because this project is very important not only for the culture scene of this city, but also for other aspects of this city’s life.”
Other than continuing to digitalize and equip the cinema, our visitors can expect a lot of program related news:
- In January and February our cinemas will premiere Croatian films: What a Countryby Vinko Brešan, and The Last Serb in Croatiaby Predrag Ličina.
- February is a month of big film festivals Rotterdam and Berlin so we will pay tribute to these festivals by screening the Danish film The Guilty.
- In February we will also continue with our project "Little MeDITErranean" with screenings and workshops for children which we organize thanks to the support of "Kultura Nova" foundation and “The Agency for Electronic Media”. Even though this project is closed to the public and we are collaborating with schools, contact us if you want more information and you want your children to be a part of the workshops.
We are also preparing a spring tour of cities without cinemas, and we are also preparing for the summer season! You are in for a film treat in 2019!
